Position Description:

The Practice Services Supervisor, will supervises the day-to-day operations of charge capture staff including: monitoring workflow, delegating work, especially as it relates to issues concerning charge capture for professional services rendered in multi-specialty medical practice. Completes human resource functions including interviewing, hiring, disciplinary actions, performance evaluations and staff development. Keeping direct contact with the Practice Services Manager II daily as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize and supervise daily charge capture operational functions for MCP, CSG and/or CP multiple specialty areas. Investigate and resolve charge capture concerns and issues in collaboration with charge capture manager, CPS administration, physicians as well as departmental and internal staff. Supervisor has on average 15-25 direct reports.
  • Acts as the Epic PB Resolute resource for charge capture and related revenue cycle issues.
  • Acts as resource person for charge capture, not only within his/her scope of supervision but across CPS and MCW/Community Physicians.Develop or revise operational protocols or process to improve lag time, quality and or quantity of work.
  • Recruitment and onboarding of new charge capture staff, recommendation for promotions for existing team members, initiate and carry out corrective actions as necessary following department protocol and legal guidelines, establish performance guidelines/standards.
  • Monitor governmental regulations and changes in healthcare industry to ensure compliance of charge capture processes.
  • Investigates and resolves issues in collaboration with the charge capture team, CPS teams, departmental and clinical staff as well as physicians.
  • Perform coaching and mentoring of staff. Ensure appropriate on-going training and performance reviews are completed.
  • Resolves problems, issues and concerns in collaboration with payors, physicians, administration and staff by collecting and compiling information to resolve individual problems and identify patterns and trends. Maintains knowledge of diverse contracts, government regulations and third party policies and the impact they have on operational efficiency.
  • Analyzes statistical data utilizing various financial reports to evaluate the efficiency of billing and collection to aid in managing accounts receivable. Evaluates procedures for accuracy and efficiency and oversee maintenance of current team protocols. Prepares reports for managers documenting findings and recommending solutions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of medical billing and collections revenue cycle as it specifically relates to medical coding, reimbursement, contracting and processing payments.
  • Understanding of medical billing concepts and coding conventions.
  • Knowledge of human resource management practices, including supervision, training/mentoring, hiring and disciplinary procedures. Skill in planning, organizing, delegating and supervising.
  • Ability to interact with people effectively. Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and to exercise independent judgment, decision making and problem solving skills.
  • Proficient in Excel and Word.

Minimum Qualifications:

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s degree

Minimum Required Experience: 5 years of related experience required.

Certifications/Licenses: Coding certification (CPC, CCS-P) and/or Health Information Management credential, RHIT, RHIA.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Experience: Strong preference for experience in a multi-specialty professional billing coding and charge capture and overall knowledge of entire revenue cycle; previous supervisory and/or lead experience preferred.

Field: Business, Healthcare Administration, Nursing or related field preferred.
