Job Description

At Pasado’s Safe Haven, we envision a world where every animal is recognized as an individual with the right to live free from abuse, abandonment, neglect, and exploitation. Our Pet Services Program is focused on providing low-cost spay/neuter to marginalized populations who otherwise wouldn’t have access to this service and helping to prevent shelter overpopulation and unnecessary euthanasia.


The Veterinary Assistant/Driver (VAD) works in tandem with the Veterinary Technician and Veterinarian to ensure quality care of cats and dogs from intake to discharge. Responsible for daily coordination of clients on-board the mobile Spay Station including driving the station to the location, patient intake, data entry, client communication, clinic sanitation, and staff assistance.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for driving the Spay Station to scheduled location each day of
  • Collaborate with Spay/Neuter Clinic Manager for all vehicle maintenance, repairs, and licensing.
  • Responsible for filling diesel and fresh water and emptying grey water from the station as required.
  • Meet clients daily for patient check in.
  • Ensure all client data is entered accurately and clients are charged for services
  • Provide humane care and assists with safe
  • Monitor inventory of medications and
  • Responsible for all client communications while pet is on board the
  • Assist with deposits; monitor petty cash; submit reports to the Spay/Neuter Clinic
  • Assist LVT with periodic inventory
  • Report any maintenance problems immediately to Spay/Neuter Clinic
  • Maintain strict confidentiality on client, patient, and donor
  • Understand all facets of the daily operation of the
  • Assists LVT with general patient care such as, prepping animals for surgery; administer appropriate vaccinations and/or microchips and other medications as directed; monitor animals post-op to ensure safe recovery.
  • Promote the humane care and treatment of animals at all times.
  • Be respectful of co-workers and treat clients, volunteers, and patients in a professional manner.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Veterinary assistant training/experience preferred.
  • Must have experience handling dogs and cats.
  • Must have a valid Washington driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Exceptional people management and communication skills.
  • Must be able to work effectively and compassionately with all personality types from all walks of life.
  • Must convey positive, upbeat, and engaging attitude and demonstrate calming influence during stressful situations.
  • Must demonstrate professional demeanor.
  • Must have the ability to work in an intensive environment of high-volume spay/neuter surgeries in a small space.
  • Must have passion for spay/neuter efforts and relentlessly promote the cause. Must be driven to meet/exceed goals.
  • Must be a self-starter, able to prioritize effectively, possess exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Must have passion and conviction for animal welfare and compassion for all animals, with the drive and devotion to end pet over-population and the over-crowding in area shelters.
  • Must have the ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must have the ability to lift 40lbs.

Employment Details:

  • Regular Full-Time, Non-Exempt (40 hours per week)
  • Shifts are generally 8-12 hours, 4 days per week, depending on case load.
  • Variable locations across Pierce County
  • Occasional Friday or Saturday coverage may be required
  • Salary Range: $22.00-$34.00 per hour, Starting Wage: $22.00 per hour
