JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State’s Sustainability Institute is looking to hire a Penn State student intern who will work from June 2023 to May 2024 . This student will assist the Institute’s efforts to support the assessment of sustainability literacy at Penn State, the integration of sustainability across Penn State’s curriculum, and to support best practices for informal and formal community climate change and sustainability engagement and education. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate knowledge of sustainability education, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, environmental justice, community engagement, and informal community education. Candidates should have a record of accomplishment on sustainability. Duties may include, but are not limited to: assisting in the development and revision of a sustainability literacy assessment, analyzing results, reporting on results to student, faculty, staff, and administrative stakeholders including University leadership and government agencies, supporting workshops for sustainability education, visiting undergraduate classes to communicate about sustainability and to recruit for sustainability education initiatives, assisting in the development of materials for community engagement, and assisting with meeting coordination and communication.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a team player, with a GPA above 3.0, and superb written, interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Be a quick learner, able to manage and organize multiple sources of information, synthesize multiple sources of information into reports, lessons, course content, outreach activities, and possible recommendations.
  • Have a record of interest in and knowledge about environmental justice, sustainability, and the science and ethics of climate change. Knowledge of policy is a plus.
  • Maintain a log of goals, activities, and objectives.
  • Have a driver’s license and able to drive to locations using a campus vehicle.

This paid internship will be for up to 20 hours per week throughout the entire year. Our offices are in the Land and Water Research Building near the outdoor track.
