PRIMARY PURPOSE AND FUNCTION

The Senior Software Engineer implements and maintains new and/or improved web software code, procedures and techniques as they pertain to the PSTrax SaaS application. Primary responsibilities are to analyze, design, develop, and maintain clean, high quality software code which conforms to industry best practices and company quality standards.

Additionally, with increasing experience and seniority this role will supervise and mentor other engineers, and lead activities to define and implement architecture standards, frameworks and design practices, as well as knowledge sharing activities within the Engineering department and across the company.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Required: Minimum 1 year of Laravel and 3 years of PHP experience.
• Engineer and develop “clean”, efficient, and well-designed code for our cloud-based / SAAS application.
• Review and analyze our legacy PHP codebase to understand existing functionality. Convert existing legacy codebase to Laravel PHP framework as required for scalability and implementation of new features and functionality.
• Identify root causes and implement permanent fixes for bugs and code performance issues identified during testing or user operations.
• Engineer robust, reliable, and modern code for product enhancements to the existing functionality and for major additions of new functionality and full product modules.
• Provide lead level contributions and decisions in all phases of the development lifecycle - requirements analysis, design/architecture, development, QA/testing, deployment, and monitoring.
• Engineer and implement modern MySQL database communications methods within the new and legacy codebases.
• Support and champion modern API architecture principles and tools used for scalable communications protocol implementations.
• Utilize Agile development methodology and processes.
• Assist in documenting and implementing DevOps methodologies in AWS production environments.
• Define, implement, and maintain conformance to best-practices and modern software engineering procedures for PHP/Laravel. Ensure conformance to long-term platform architecture strategy.
• Conduct or participate in technical reviews of requirements, specifications, designs, code and other artifacts. Ensure commitments are agreed, reviewed, and met.
• Assign, direct, and review work of other engineers and provide guidance and mentoring to teammates regarding technical matters and best practices.
• Provide thought leadership to the organization to Identify and keep abreast of novel technical concepts and trends in software engineering, artificial intelligence, UI/UX, architecture, and emerging technologies.
• Mentor, guide, and support the development of junior software engineers. Identify growth opportunities and provide resources to help with their continuous technical maturation.
• Continuously learn new skills and adopt new practices in order to develop innovative user centric products that maintain PSTrax industry leadership position.

• 7+ years programming experience (PHP and Laravel)
• Experience working on web-based / SAAS applications with greater than 50,000 active users
• Experience with legacy code conversions (preferably PHP)
• Deep experience working in MySQL and relational databases
• Deep understanding of full-stack modern development
• Thorough understanding and practice of SOLID OOP software engineering principles
• Experience with full stack software architecture and design
• Experience implementing DevOps best practices (SDLC, coding standards, documentation)
• Deep Experience with AWS
• Proven record meeting project timelines
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

COMPENSATION & OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS

• Start date: ASAP
• Location: Preferably Denver-based but open to the right remote applicant
• Annual salary: $110,000 - $160,000
