About the job

In this role, the Diagnostic Echo Cardiac Sonographer I will perform advanced, non-invasive cardiac ultrasound procedures on pediatric patients, to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease. These exams are performed in accordance with the guidelines and standards set forth by the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE), the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the Inter-societal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiographic Laboratories (ICAEL).

What you will do

Demonstrates competency in cardiac ultrasound by independently performing high quality, diagnostic ultrasound studies, including routine transthoracic studies, dobutamine and stress echocardiograms and advanced studies such as PVI and desynchrony studies. These exams are performed according to the ASE, ACC and ICAEL guidelines and standards.

  • Obtains the patient's medical history to gather data pertinent to the pending exam.
  • Verifies the appropriateness of the procedure, contacting the referring physician, if necessary, for clarification.
  • Performs procedures within standard time frame, noting that the complexity of the procedure or the acuity of the patient may alter the test duration.
  • Uses independent judgement to accurately differentiate between normal and pathological findings. Synthesizes ultrasound findings with the patient’s medical history and communicates any significant abnormalities to the appropriate physician.
  • Completes all electronic documentation and measurements necessary to provide the Cardiologist with the information needed to formulate their interpretation.
  • Plans for appropriate patient disposition after testing is completed.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement Activities to improve quality of Cardiac Ultrasound Services.

Here is what you will need

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associates Degree
  • 1-2 years of previous job-related experience
  • Specific Degree(s): Graduate of an Accredited Ultrasound Program which includes Echocardiography

Licensure/Certifications

Required:

  • CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) from the American Heart Association
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)
  • Other: Registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or
  • Other: Registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or
  • Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI as an RCS)
  • New Graduates: obtain certification within 6 months of hire
