Overview:

Community Medical Centers has been providing central California with the highest level of care available in the region. Community Regional Medical Center measures up with top hospitals nationally and is the 3rd largest in California! With 685 beds, we are home to the only comprehensive Burn and Level I Trauma center between Los Angeles and Sacramento. The 56,000 square-foot emergency department is one of the largest and busiest in California! We have an 84-bed Level III NICU and plan to significantly expand pediatric specialty care. Our hospital serves 2.5 million people within 9 counties, averaging a daily census of 641 patients. We're affiliated with UCSF as a teaching facility; trained 3,000 Medical Doctor's to date plus continuous invests in research and training grants.
Responsibilities:
Consults with Oncologists on the physical and radiobiological aspect of a patient's treatment and the development of treatment plans. Works collaboratively with all staff members, including Radiation Therapists and Dosimetrists, to ensure accurate delivery of treatments. Assure the accurate acquisition and storage of data for treatment plans. Responsible for the physical aspects of all radiation sources. Assist the department Manager / Director in training and mentoring staff, monitoring the work of Radiation Therapists and Dosimetrists.
Accountabilities
1. Participates directly with the treatment of radiation therapy patients (medicine) and consults with the Radiation Oncologist concerning patient and fetal dose determinations.
2. Performs or directs treatment planning in collaboration with Physicians and Dosimetrists.
3. Calibrates treatment machines, oversees the dose determinations in terms of radiation therapy provided to patients to assure accurate delivery of radiation treatments.
4. Performs and directs periodic quality assurance (QA) in the following: linear accelerator machines to assure continued accuracy of treatment delivery, treatment planning system to ensure data integrity and other departments as described in the QA manual.
5. Measures all beam data required for the treatment planning system and enters appropriate data into treatment planning system and verifies accuracy.
6. Performs or directs tabulation of beam data, treatment time calculations and verification and weekly chart checks.
7. Supervises delivery of High Dose Rate (HDR) treatments.
8. Coordinates handling and loading of brachytherapy sources and monitors brachytherapy QA including source strength verification.
9. Assists department leadership in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures related to Physics, Dosimetry and QA, development of new treatment methods as needed and optimization of work of subordinates, procedures, workflows and standards for quality and quantity of work.
10. Assists in the selection of new equipment, supervises the maintenance of existing equipment and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education
- Master's Degree in Medical Physics, Physics, Radiation Biology or a related discipline required
- Doctorate of Medical Physics (DMP) preferred
Experience
- 3 years of experience as a Medical Physicist in a healthcare environment required
Licenses and Certifications
- ABRP - Board certified in Medical Physics with the American Board of Radiology required
