Senior Accountant

Key Responsibilities:

• Complete monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting close activities
• Perform account reconciliations on various general ledger accounts and use problem-solving skills to research and remediate any reconciling differences
• Perform monthly account analysis, research variances, and communicate insights with leadership
• Apply accounting guidance for various projects and new initiatives across the business
• Evaluate current processes and procedures and recommend changes
• Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation schedules, provide period-end detail for journal entries
• Ensure proper recording of fixed asset purchases, disposals, transfers, and CIP
• Work closely with Accounts Payable to review repairs & maintenance invoices for possible capitalization
• Apply appropriate use tax to fixed asset invoices and maintain use tax schedule
• Submit sales tax, use tax, and any business tax payments at period-end/quarterly
• Assist with the annual financial statement audit by preparing requested workpapers/schedules
• Perform ad-hoc projects, tasks and analysis to help support decisions, resolve issues or support various business needs

Qualifications, Skills, and Proficiencies:

• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
• Able to work in a team environment
• Able to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner
• Able to communicate clearly and succinctly to other members of the finance/accounting department, as well as members of the wider Jacks management team
• Self-starter, able to identify areas for improvement and act on those improvements, as well as take on additional responsibilities in the future
• Detail-oriented and highly organized
• Ability to prioritize numerous projects and initiatives
• Familiarity with state sales tax regulations and procedures
• Knowledge of accounting principles and best practices
• Excellent project management skills
• Degree in Accounting or related field (required)
• CPA obtained or in progress (preferred)
• Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Excel, and Word
