Position Summary
POSITION SUMMARY: This role is seasonal and active during the "pack season" which varies year to year. The "pack season" typically begins in July and can last until November. With direction from the AG team as well as the Scale house coordinator, the scale house operator is responsible for conducting the daily operations of the scale house which supports the weighing of different vehicles in and out of the plant and collecting this data in a computer system. Along with that, the operator is also responsible for tracking all the information for growers, waster vendor and seed vendor.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Be able to give direction to yard dog operators, seed vendor driver, compost driver and pumpkin truck drivers. Prepare and maintain grower tons tracking system for over 50 pumpkin growers. This system is what is used to pay the growers at the end year for pumpkins harvested. Prepare and maintain tracking systems for the compost waste and seed waste. Perform checks and balance of daily receipts for the scale house operation. Enter daily data into the Globe for the scale house system. Work with 3rd party trucking vendor for changes in the daily trucking operation. Be the safety champion for the pumpkin dock area to ensure that there is a safe environment for our associates. Ensure proper dumping of pumpkin trailers is preformed to ensure a QA product is produced in the factory. Dispatch trucks to different fields during field switches or rain situations. Maintain a clean and safe environment in the scale office area. Ability to work 12-hour shifts, 2-6 days a week as well as weekends if required. Willing to work in a seasonal environment that will be a temporary assignment of about 2-4 months. Able to work weekends, holidays, and night shift. Any other duty assigned by management that supports an efficient operation.
EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED is desired. One year of work experience is preferred. Ability to keep simple records; ability to use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing and database software; ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential tasks of the position; ability to follow oral and written instructions; courtesy; alertness; dependability. Possess basic computer knowledge.
