Description

The Kentucky Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction, Division of Building Code Enforcement seeks a qualified individual to serve as a Building Codes Plans Reviewer I, serving an integral part of the building construction process.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Learns to review construction drawings and related documents of new or remodeled construction for compliance with building codes and referenced standards.
  • Learns to review field inspection reports.
  • Consults with design professionals, contractors, and owners and other officials concerning building plans.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Proficient communication skills.
  • Possess sufficient technical knowledge of the construction practices and techniques.
  • Proven abilities to manage multiple projects.
  • Conduct effective code research.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail.
  • High level of customer service.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years experience in drafting or preparing building construction documents, as a new construction building inspector or plans reviewer, in the supervision of building construction, or as an inspector in the Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A bachelor's or an associate degree in architecture, engineering, architectural technology, drafting and designing technology, fire science technology, engineering technology, building construction technology, or related field will substitute for the above experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Incumbent will perform work in an office setting and in the field performing inspections. Travel will be required. Exposed to dangers associated with being around building construction.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
