The Opportunity

The Member Experience department's charter is to partner with our members throughout their health journey, whenever they need us. We do this by providing convenient ways to manage overall health, address immediate needs and to empower our members to live healthier lives. Our primary means of doing this is through our web & mobile applications where we focus on core metrics such as booking conversion, visit rate, engagement rate, video drop-off rate and much more.

The Proactive Care team is chartered to improve engagement rate where they build & iterate on outreach messaging systems and experiment with front-end features that drive patients to getting the care they need. Although this opening is for the Proactive Care team, we'll need an Engineering Manager who has the experience, agility and versatility to take on any portfolio or domain shift that comes their way.

What you'll work on:

  • Lead a cross-functional team of full-stack web & mobile engineers focused on building front-end applications and messaging services to support the team's charter
  • Collaborate closely with your product and design partners to develop and execute on multi-quarter roadmaps
  • Help drive the team's projects including planning, execution, and post-release improvements
  • Guide and facilitate discussions around technical architecture and when necessary dive deep and be a sounding board when your team hits coding challenges
  • Provide feedback, career guidance, and mentoring for team members
  • In collaboration with other leaders in the department, develop and iterate on processes to support the team's success
  • Maintain satisfaction and effectiveness of the team
  • Communicate frequently with department leadership, key stakeholders, and also the broader engineering organization

You'll be set up for success if you have:

  • 2+ years partnering closely with product & design partners with shared responsibilities of building and driving a roadmap that improves key team metrics
  • 2+ years experience in a software engineering management position
  • 5+ years experience in software development
  • Experience incrementally improving Agile processes, whether they be Kanban, Scrum or other Agile methodologies
  • Experience aligning teams around both simple and complex projects and architectural solutions
  • Nuanced and well-founded perspectives on developing complex web applications in a modern technology stack
  • Experience guiding and motivating senior and above engineers along the next steps in their careers
  • An empathetic and collaborative approach to leadership
  • Clear and persuasive verbal and written communication skills

Not required but would be great if you had:

  • Experience managing full-stack web & mobile teams
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails, Android+Kotlin or iOS+Swift/SwiftUI
  • Experience building messaging services for scale with AWS SQS, RabbitMQ, etc.
  • Experience working in both monolith-based and more distributed environments
  • A passion for healthcare and/or experience working with EHRs

This is a full-time remote role based anywhere in the US. The role will ask you to work the hours of 9-5 pm, either in the Central Time Zone or the Pacific Time Zone (some flexibility based on team meetings). You have the option of working in our San Francisco headquarters, Austin, TX or New York, but most of your coworkers prefer remote for now.

One Medical is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices:
The base salary range for this role is $140,000 to $235,000. However, actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate. These factors include, but are not limited to, job related knowledge and skill set, depth of experience, certifications and/or degrees, and specific work location.
The total compensation package for certain roles may also include additional components such as a sign-on bonus, annual performance bonus, equity grants in the form of RSUs, medical and other benefits and/or other applicable incentive compensation plans.
