Development Director

The Development Director is responsible for the implementation, management and evaluation of fundraising efforts including special events, donor development and grant writing in accordance with the standards set out by the organization. He/she works within the guidelines, policies and mission of the organization and will be accountable and responsible for specific projects as assigned. The position will be based in the organization’s administrative office in the Buckhead area of Atlanta and reports directly to the Executive Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:*

Fundraising:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive fundraising plan including specific strategies for leadership giving, annual fund, and institutional funders.
  • Utilize a moves management framework to direct work with individuals and institutional funders.
  • Provide excellent high-touch stewardship to all constituents.
  • Exercise discretion in handling confidential donor information.
  • Engage in planning and implementation of special events including Annual Gala, Volunteer Breakfast, Volunteer events and board-hosted social events.
  • Work with Board Fundraising Committee to leverage board relationships and acquire resources.

Budget and Finance:*

  • Set and meet fundraising goals developed in partnership with Executive Director.
  • Manage fundraising budget and create forecasts.
  • Deliver regular reports to Executive Director and board on progress toward goals.

Communications:*

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communication plan to drive engagement with key stakeholder groups (donors, volunteers, and community).
  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications with support from the Communications Director, from web presence to external relations, with the goal of creating a strong brand.

Qualifications:*

  • Bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred).
  • Razor's Edge experience.
  • Ability and passion for building relationships.
  • Ability and comfort level in soliciting and closing gifts.
  • Strong communication skills, including public speaking and writing.
  • Skill in exercising discretion and independent judgment with regard to management tasks.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple demands.
  • Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds, including children, and people of diverse cultures.
  • Familiarity with the metro Atlanta philanthropic community and local funding sources desired.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Bilingual is preferred.
