Position Summary:

The Maintenance Supervisor leads the site Maintenance department in providing both a reactive and proactive, multi-skilled maintenance service on all operational equipment and facilities infrastructure. Responsible for working with the management team in planning, scheduling and timely completion of work to be carried out. Increase the facilities operational effectiveness, manage, and implement improvement plans and managing the team on technical best practice, establish standard policies and procedures. Implement and manage continuous improvement by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, work practices and processes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Developing and contributing to the creation and implementation of best practices for the maintenance department.

  • Utilize the company’s vision, strategies, policies, processes, and procedures to improve operational performance.

  • Directs workers engaged in monitoring refrigeration and boiler systems.

  • Creates requisitions and monitors inventory for tools, equipment, and supplies.

  • Completes daily, weekly, and monthly checklists on building equipment maintenance procedures and maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures.

  • Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required.

  • Effectively delegate all maintenance issues on each shift to the appropriate team member for effective planning and resolution.

  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.

  • Schedule both internal and external work(s) minimizing down time.

  • Optimize equipment according to standard procedure, enhancing performance and product quality.

  • Ensuring that the introduction of new machinery is a seamless process.

  • Properly evaluate all equipment for operational efficiency and determine which ones will need replacing and/or updating to maintain operational effectiveness.

  • Undertake continuous training and development. Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems.

  • Provide technical expertise to the team. Identify and deploy the technical skill, resources, and systems to ensure the proper completion of projects.

  • Conduct risk assessments of processes and tasks in the department.

Minimum Experience/Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 5-10 years of maintenance experience (food/manufacturing/packaging/agricultural); one year of forklift experience; experience in building and mechanical equipment maintenance and repair; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Good skill in the use of hand and power tools.

  • Refrigeration and boiler experience a plus but not necessary.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret miscellaneous drawings and schematics.

Required Knowledge, kills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and follow-up.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Knowledge of how a production facility functions.
  • Sound judgment, problem solving and common-sense thinking skills.
  • Basic understanding of GMPs and HACCP.

People Management:

  • Coaching, counseling, and developing a high performing maintenance team that meets objectives, delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements. Set realistic and achievable goals for the maintenance department. Properly review, provide feedback, and assess ongoing performance of direct reports. Promote high standards of performance through personal example and ensure that each team member know the expectations of standards and behaviors expected of them. Manage and lead the team, ensuring adequate staffing levels. Motivate and coach the team to operational success. Monitor the completion of tasks and ensure good performance and record on appropriate systems.
