Job Description

Lane Powell has 140 years of experience serving as a strategic business advisor and legal counsel to premier public and private companies. A preeminent litigation and corporate firm, Lane Powell represents clients in the Northwest and nationally in dispute resolution ranging from arbitration to complex litigation and class actions. Synonymous with excellence and innovation, Lane Powell’s attorneys bring an entrepreneurial spirit to their work that is reflected in a client roster that includes some of the most venerable – and dynamic – companies and individuals in business today.

The Seattle office of Lane Powell is seeking a litigation associate to join our Creditors’ Rights Litigation Team. We are looking for an attorney with one to three years’ experience in either bankruptcy or creditors’ rights litigation. This experience could come from either practicing or a clerkship. Commercial finance and commercial law expertise would be a plus. Candidates should be licensed to practice in Washington, or be eligible for reciprocity.

We offer a competitive compensation structure and a uniquely collegial environment where you will be part of a cooperative, collaborative, and supportive team. Our offices are operating under a hybrid schedule. Any offer will be conditioned upon successfully completing a pre-employment background, conflicts clearance, and reference check.

Job Responsibilities

Clients include national and regional banks, community banks, bankruptcy trustees and receivers, special servicers, bridge lenders, borrowers, and purchasers of distressed businesses. Successful candidates will assist the Creditor’s Rights & Bankruptcy Team in (a) business bankruptcy cases (including litigation over cash collateral, DIP financing, motions for relief from stay and plan confirmation), (b) state and federal receivership cases (whether moving for a receiver for our secured lender clients or representing our receiver clients in liquidating businesses or properties in other cases), (c) creditor’s rights litigation including actions on guarantees, lender liability claims, and fraudulent transfer and preference actions, (d) negotiating and drafting loan workout, modification, forbearance, and other restructuring-related agreements for our lender clients, and (e) guiding buyers through distressed business acquisitions. The job encompasses both litigation and transactional matters.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates should be licensed to practice in Washington, or eligible for reciprocity.
  • One to three years’ experience in either bankruptcy or creditors’ rights litigation.
  • Commercial finance and commercial law expertise is preferred but not required.
  • Successful candidates will have strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.
  • Ability to handle a variety of matters simultaneously to meet client demands.
  • Excellent research, writing, communication, and interpersonal skills, including public speaking.

We are proud to have received the Diversity Lab's Mansfield Rule 4.0 and 5.0 Certification Plus, which recognizes our efforts to increase the representation of diverse lawyers in leadership positions through various initiatives, including considering a diverse pool of candidates for attorney positions. To meet the requirements of the program, we voluntarily gather data on race/ethnicity, veteran status, and LGBTQ+ status for Mansfield Rule reporting purposes. However, providing this information is entirely voluntary and will not affect your candidacy. The Mansfield Rule requires that at least 30% of attorneys considered for leadership roles, promotions, client pitches, and senior lateral positions are from underrepresented groups, including attorneys of color, LGBTQ+ lawyers, women lawyers, and lawyers with disabilities. The "Mansfield Plus" certification demonstrates that we also ensured that 30% of the lawyers staffed on matters resulting from formal pitch meetings were from historically underrepresented groups, in addition to meeting the requirement that these groups make up 30% of firm leadership roles.
