Position Description

The Library Foundation (LFLA) seeks a highly organized, skilled, and self-sufficient Accounting Manager to conduct and optimize our accounting processes. Reporting to the CFO, the Accounting Manager is responsible for the daily management of accounting functions and operations, ensuring the financial system is accurate and efficient. This role will manage the monthly and year-end accounting cycles and support the preparation of annual financial statements, fiscal reporting, audit and other IRS tax documents.

The ideal candidate is an experienced accountant with a deep knowledge of the nonprofit sector, strong communication skills, and the ability to work autonomously within a fast-paced environment. In this position, you will lend your accounting expertise to improve systems and processes within an established non-profit institution and play an integral role in supporting Los Angeles Public Libraries.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full accounting cycle, including timely monthly close process, and producing quarterly, and annual financial reports
  • Manage the weekly accounts payable process
  • Conduct monthly reconciliation across accounts, including bank recs, payroll, pledges receivable, Library Store, benefits, A/P, fixed assets, and other balance sheet accounts
  • Prepare routine and closing journal entries, and review those prepared by other staff members as requested by the CFO
  • Conduct monthly analysis of all accounts/categories, assist in preparing and tracking annual budgets
  • Assist CFO with implementation of necessary fiscal policies and internal control procedures, in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Maintain the chart of accounts and other master data within the accounting system
  • Identify areas of efficiency and proactively provide recommendations for process improvement
  • Assist in the preparation of the Annual financial statements and other IRS tax forms as needed
  • Support the CFO with the annual audit
  • Assist in creating dashboards of key metrics and cash flow analysis/projections
  • Manage two accountants who will report directly to this role, including reviewing and posting their work in the system
  • Manage monthly reconciliation of revenue with Advancement Services team
  • Responsible for integrity of financial data
  • Review balance sheet monthly and ensure the accuracy of the data, supporting schedules, and roll-forwards
Requirements:
  • 6+ years of accounting and/or bookkeeping experience
  • Experience with full accounting cycle, including month and year end close, bank reconciliation and accounts payable/receivable, preferably in a non-profit organization
  • Experience preparing timely monthly financial reports and year-end financial statements
  • Experience working in non-profit financial software including Blackbaud Financial Edge and Raiser’s Edge, Paylocity or other payroll systems, plus MS Excel
  • Project management tools such as Asana, Trello, Clickup
  • Experience managing direct reports, preferred
  • Ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously and work with a high degree of autonomy
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
