Position summary: The Traffic Engineering Intern will be asked to work closely with engineering employees to carry out an array of assigned tasks.


Housing will not be provided for this position. Sponsorship is not available for this position.


Essential functions and responsibilities

  • Perform field work
  • Make edits and updates to existing engineering drawings
  • Collect traffic data
  • Utilize computer programs to solve engineering problems
  • Provide input on solutions to problems using basic theories and engineering fundamentals
  • Assist with layout and design of routine small and medium-sized engineering projects
  • Develop and prepare specifications
  • Technical evaluation of equipment and material
  • Maintain accurate and current project documentation

Required Experience
  • Full time student at the sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate level pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering or closely related major
  • Interest in Transportation Engineering

Preferred Experience

  • Coursework in related field
  • Previous internship experience
  • Background in civil design including Microstation/AutoCAD
  • Proven track record of innovative solutions to difficult problems
  • Participant in team-based management style

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
