Job Description

Contributes to the team by assisting the physician with the performance of surgical procedures and instruments.
Job Specifications:
  • Provides surgical assistance as needed.
    • Procures instruments and supplies for cases per physician preference cards
    • Assists surgeons in procedures with skill and accuracy
    • Instrument counts are documented for each case assisted as applicable
  • Ensures patient safety during intraoperative period
    • Maintains sterility during the handling of instruments and supplies
    • Ensures that the patient is safe from electrical hazard
    • Positions, preps and drapes patients to minimize the risk of injury and infection
    • Reports instruments and equipment in need of maintenance or repair
  • Communicates with the team in order to provide for patient needs
    • Communicates with materials product specialist and assistant to provide supplies, instruments and equipment for all procedures
    • Communicates with team regarding patient safety and procedural issues
Required Qualifications:
Education: High School or GED
Licensure: Must have current licensure as indicated by profession (LPN must be licensed by State Board of Nursing).
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years training in surgical technology from a comparable medical institution. LPNs must have one (1) years' experience as a scrub technician. Or, graduate of an accredited program in Surgical Technology or within 90 days of successful program completion may substitute for experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience: One (1) year experience as certified Surgical Technician. Five (5) years of work experience as Surgical Technician.
