Purpose
To support the Concrete, Structural and Architectural (CSA) engineering team in support of design and engineering work done for the Mining, Minerals, and Metals industry. The candidate will lead small, medium, and large projects for the CSA discipline and interface well with the customer and coordinate with the rest of the project team.
- Take responsibility for the CSA engineering and design team assigned to, and their design output to quality, cost and schedule requirements for specific projects.
- Support the technical integrity for the CSA discipline.
- Ensure all engineering and design work performed adjusts to quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
- Ensure all design work is safe and carried out in a safe manner.
- Ensure all design work conforms to the codes and standards used by the customer, or to agreed industry standards.
- The candidate will be based out of Salt Lake City for customer interface and site access.
- Self-motivated individuals with a desire to solve complex engineering problems, show effective team leadership and communication skills will be ideally suitable for this role.
Responsibilities
- Lead a discipline project team of engineers and designers as part of the CSA team.
- Serve as project lead designer/engineer and supervises the work of other engineers, designers or drafting.
- Perform designing/engineering work/deliverables as part of the CSA team.
- Ability to interpret customer specifications.
- Coordinate/Communicate with other disciplines and the customer.
- Support scope definition, estimation and progress control of CSA engineering activities.
- Support resource allocation based on project schedule requirements.
- Lead RFP, estimations, detailed engineering, and field support project activities.
- Familiarity of applicable codes and mining CSA standards to support engineering deliverables.
- Familiarity of customer standards and ability to interpret customer specifications.
- Support quality assurance and verification role on engineering deliverables
- Quality Assurance – Responsible for working, and getting team members working with you, within the provisions and guidelines of the Worley Quality Assurance system.
- Identify issues and problems, develop appropriate solutions.
- Keep up to date with the latest developments and technical innovations in CSA engineering.
- Resolve discrepancies between Worley and its customer's requirements.
- As required, act as the CSA engineering lead on specific projects.
- Ensure the project scope is clear and that changes comply with project change management processes.
- Participate in relevant meetings, prepare progress reports and follow required checking procedures.
- May be required to provide assistance and advice during procurement, construction and commissioning activities.
- Provide construction management support for customers as required.
- Liaise with customers, vendors, engineers, and other disciplines.
- Participate in the professional development of less experienced members of the department/team.
- Deliver structural engineering services that meet Worley, customers' and applicable regulatory codes and standards requirement, on time and within budget.
- Initiate, manage and if required supervise structural engineering activities to meet project requirements.
- Participate in the preparation of specifications, structural analysis and design, calculations, seismic design and evaluation, bill of materials, as well as coordinate with all project team members.
- Design and analyze general steel, concrete as well as specialized design using relevant codes and standards applying customers change control process.
- Participate and contribute to site walkdowns, projects meetings design reviews, disposition, and incorporation of internal and external review comments.
- Monitor assigned activities for effective performance and adherence to established policies, objectives and customer standards (quality, duration, effort).
- Lead a team to ensure effective and successful delivery for various mining, minerals, and metals projects.
- Mentoring junior or intermediate staff is required.
- Plan and identify structural engineering resources.
- In-process activities (prepare/review/verify/approve) for engineering deliverables.
- Coordinate key technical deliverables.
- Work interactively with customers (both internal and external to the company) to develop strong relationships and ensure production of high quality engineering products and high customer satisfaction.
- Ensure adherence to government, organization and customer engineering standards and procedures.
- Participation in engineering department and section meetings.
What you will bring
Technical and Industry Experience
- 15 years structural engineering experience with minimum 7-8 years mining project experience.
- Highly effective technical and practical engineering skills and ability to consistently deliver quality, accurate and timely work to Worley and its customers.
- A sound knowledge of the fundamental requirements of the structural engineering, and the basic requirements of other engineering fields.
- A sound knowledge of applicable local and international standards and statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Competent use of structural engineering specific software STAAD PRO, Mathcad, working knowledge of structural 3D modeling program.
- Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office Suite.
- Advanced degree in structural engineering would be considered an asset.
Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training
Required:
- University or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
Preferred:
- Minimum fifteen (15) years of direct structural design experience.
- P.E. Designation
