About The Team
The SmartThings Edge Drivers team is looking for a Software Engineer to help integrate devices with the SmartThings ecosystem, as well as design and build innovative features for smart homes. For more information, check out our Public Repo here and also our Developer Documentation here to understand the importance of Edge Drivers to the SmartThings Platform. This is a great opportunity to be part of the exciting smart home industry while working with a group of highly talented and quality-focused engineers.


Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with external partners/groups to evolve the platform to support hub connected devices, including Matter, Zigbee, Z-Wave and LAN devices
  • Design, develop, and maintain Lua-based software applications, libraries, and frameworks.
  • Debug and fix issues discovered internally and reported by external beta testers and regular users.

Basic Qualifications
  • Proficient in scripting languages such as Lua and experience or willingness to learn other languages like Rust
  • Working knowledge of source control (preferably git and GitHub/GitLab) and Ci/CD practices
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar experience
  • 2+ years of software development experience
  • Self-starter who is eager to learn, comfortable with some uncertainty, and can demonstrate knowledge of programming and development practices.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, ability to work within a team
Preferred Qualifications
  • Passionate about IoT
  • Experience with modern IP networking
  • Familiarity with an embedded Linux Environment
  • Experience working with external partners and vendors to deliver customer-facing products

Total compensation for this role for a candidate based in Colorado is expected to be between $87,208 and $122,091, for a candidate based in Washington is expected to be between $100,053 and $145,277, for a candidate based in California is expected to be between $98,031 and $157,781, and for a candidate in NYC is expected to be between $108,042 and $156,877, but may be higher or lower in other States due to geographic differentials in the labor market.
