Job Description
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The Senior Web Copywriter manages content projects for UMMS' consumer web properties, collaborates on content strategy, and assigns and reviews copy.
- Manages a variety of web content projects, including section overhauls and new content production. Synthesizes complex medical information into original web content that is both search- and consumer-friendly.
- Works independently with subject matter experts, marketing staff and other stakeholders to communicate best practices for branding, search engine optimization (SEO), user experience (UX) and content performance. Uses web expertise and professional judgment to makes content decisions based on best practices and stakeholder feedback.
- Provides input on the development and refinement of website content strategy to ensure alignment with UMMS’ organizational priorities.
- Assigns and edits copy developed by UMMS team members and outside contractors, as needed.
- Collaborates in the development of style guidelines and other internal process documentation.
- Proactively reviews site content for brand standards, grammar, internal and AP style, quality, and readability.
- Fosters a web presence and a work environment that are respectful and inclusive.
- Keeps abreast of digital health trends and web best practices and identifies opportunities for improvement.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Expert in writing and proofreading in accordance with Associated Press (AP) Style
- Proficient in search engine optimization (SEO) content techniques and keyword research
- Excellent verbal, writing, strategic thinking, conceptualization, presentation, and facilitation skills
- Proficient in Google Analytics
- Proficient in photo editing for web applications
- Sitecore and HTML experience a plus
- Demonstrated ability to establish and meet deadlines and work within sometimes limited time frames.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to work a temporary, alternative schedule when the need arises, including teleworking.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required in English, Journalism, Marketing, Communications or a related field.
- A minimum of four years of experience as a professional writer specializing in developing website content.
