Outside Sales Representative

We are looking for an Outside Sales Rep to join our growing team at a building materials and lumber company that has been around for over 80 years and is still growing. We are the building and lumber experts for contractors and homeowners alike, from big commercial projects to residential and smaller DIYs. Our commitment is to providing quality building materials, excellent customer service, and a first class sales experience.

The Outside Sales Rep in this position will be responsible for generating a target amount of revenue within our company established margin range for their assigned trade accounts.

Responsibilities for the Outside Sales Rep:

  • Identifies and develops prospects and establishes new business.
  • Develops customer accounts by maximizing sales and profitability.
  • Establishes sale pricing based on legitimate market factors such as order size, account volume, established terms, etc.
  • Presents estimates/proposals to new and existing customers and follows up to close sale.
  • Conducts business in customers’ preferred venue (customer’s office, jobsite, etc.).
  • Strictly adheres to established job set-up and credit approval practices.
  • Monitors customer compliance with Company credit policies.
  • Works with customers and staff regarding credit issues and collection efforts.
  • Provides outstanding customer service to customers and prospects.
  • Participates in trade shows.
  • Maintains up to date product knowledge and building practices.


Requirements of the Outside Sales Rep:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of Sales experience in the building materials and construction industries.
  • Valid class D drivers license with good driving record
  • Strong mathematical skills including construction math and pricing/gross margin calculations.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with customers, co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Must have strong listening skills.
  • Strong relationship building skills.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Software: Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer operations.
  • High school diploma or GED
