Docent Job Description

The Monteith Historical Society is looking for a docent for the summer season, mid-June through mid-September. The docent will serve as a tour guide for visitors to the historic house museum located in Albany, Oregon. The Monteith House was built in 1849 by Thomas and Walter Monteith, two of Albany’s founders. The House was the first frame house built in Albany and today it serves as a pioneer house museum.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Be available for the days the Monteith House is open for summer tours, mid-June through mid-September, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 11am-4pm.
• Dress in appropriate pioneer costume and be well groomed. If needed, the Society can supply a costume.
• Become knowledgeable in the history of the City of Albany, the Monteith Family, the Monteith House and its contents, and the pioneer era. This information will be provided by the Society.
• Be gracious to guests interpreting the histories listed above to all those who choose to visit.
• Be flexible in cooperatively working with others, but also be okay with working on your own.
• Keep the Monteith House clean. This involves dusting and light housework.
• When no visitors are touring, work on a task as requested by the Monteith Society Board and Program Director.

Wage: $15/hour

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Pay: $15.00 per hour
