    Walt Disney Imagineering is the master planning, creative development, design, engineering, production, project management, and research and development arm of Disney’s Parks and Resorts business segment. Representing more than 150 disciplines, its talented teams of Imagineers are responsible for the creation - from concept initiation through installation and commissioning - of all Disney Resorts, theme parks and attractions, real estate developments, regional entertainment venues, and new media projects.

    Job Summary

    As the Principal Show Mechanical Designer you will partner with those responsible for providing Special Effects (SFX), Imaging/Projection, animatronic figures and show action equipment in Disney attractions. You will be encouraged to work in an environment where adaptability, long life, reliability and safety are a must. You will support all phases of the design and delivery process for a variety of theme park attractions.

    This position will report to the Show Mechanical Engineering Executive.

    You will:

    On any given day, as a Principal Show Mechanical Designer, you might:

    • Develop and negotiate scope, design requirements, budget and schedule from high level story descriptions and artwork for sophisticated projects
    • Represent Show Mechanical Design to the project core team, vendors and Disney Leadership
    • Engage with and partner with a team of designers to produce inventive designs that go above and beyond
    • Provide designs and drawings in Solidworks and AutoCAD, and release them in Electronic Data Management Systems (EDMS)
    • Enable teams to resolve design issues involving difficult trade-offs while providing a positive environment
    • Collaborate with the project procurement team to bid and award outside vendor contracts
    • Provide support for production, test and commissioning of designs

    You Will Have:

    Here's what you need to be successful at this job:

    • Minimum 10 years of extensive mechanical design experience to coordinate and drive a culture of technical excellence
    • Strong experience designing machine elements, weldments, composite structures from a clean sheet
    • Strong experience with CAD (Solidworks) and high level drafting skills
    • Ability to proactively solve problems, adjust scope, and update management
    • Sophisticated knowledge of Industry e.g. ASME, and ISO modeling, dimensioning and drafting standards
    • Prior experience with mechanical components, manufacturing processes and quality control processes
    • Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally
    • Availability to work various shifts commensurate with global project requirements (typically 8am – 5 pm)

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 3 years prior Disney or Themed Entertainment experience
    • Knowledge of Disney’s design standards and Electronic Data Management System, SmarTeam etc.
    • Proven/shown strong leadership, technical and interpersonal skills

    Preferred Education

    • SolidWorks certification

    The hiring range for this position in location is $112,012.00 to $150,260.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
