The Fiscal Specialist I will be responsible for processing daily transactions within Harborview Medical Center’s Cashiers Department in an efficient and accurate manner. The cashier will receive and disburse funds; record monetary transactions; verify daily records of receipts, consolidate cash receipts and deposits, maintain control records of receipts and disbursements; transfer funds.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Assist patients and staff at a customer service window with their payment and billing needs

  • Receive, verify, and balance cash receipts, make and maintain reports, prepare daily bank deposits accurately and timely

  • Performs all daily cash transactions. Activities to include following cash handling policies, procedures, and controls.

  • Prepare accurate, timely, complete and well-labeled journal entries, journal vouchers, account reconciliations and analyses for areas of responsibility

  • Audit in change fund inventories

  • Keep the Cashier Supervisor well informed of all issues and promptly responds to inquiries

  • Ensure proper recording of daily transactions and retention of appropriate backup documentation.

  • Build effective, collaborative working relationships throughout the organization with staff, peers, supervisors, and customers.

  • Contribute to a positive work environment. Present a professional attitude when working with customers, other departments, and the Cashier Supervisor.

  • Perform other duties as assigned



  • Qualifications
  • High school diploma, or GED certificate AND fifteen quarter hours or ten semester hours of college-level accounting or bookkeeping AND two years of full-time experience as a Fiscal Technician, or equivalent. An Associate of Arts Degree, or equivalent, in accounting or business may substitute for one year of required experience

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered

  • Functional in common office software products (Excel, Word and Access).

  • Understands university financial systems and the flow of data between the university and HMC.
