As a global glass manufacturer, we are committed to considering the future in all we do, and a successful innovation Electrical R&D Engineer will be focused on developing more sustainable glass melting designs and glass delivery processes. The new and more sustainable designs will enable higher reliance on renewable energy and efficiency through joule heating and radiant heating of molten glass. The net result will provide competitive advantage through step change process advancements, reduce in half the negative impact of glass melting operations and enable Owens Corning to meet 2030 Corporate sustainability objectives. The outcome will eliminate reliance on non-renewable energy but not limited to natural gas, fuel oil, coke, diesel, propane, and LPG. Success will require facilitating, collaborating, developing, and implementing new electrical glass manufacturing designs with support from technical experts as well as with Corporate leadership.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Demonstrates a commitment to safety:
  • Implement a personal safety action plan and review with leader.
  • Ensure rigorous compliance to standard safety procedures and OC corporate policies.
  • At ALL times, alert teammates of potential safety risks and stop unsafe behavior.


  • Lead key projects:
  • Develop, design, and implement new processes lowering OC’s sustainability carbon footprint.


  • Connection:
  • Strong sense of teamwork and collaborative capabilities facilitating across Science and Technology, Corporate Sustainability, Manufacturing, and Capital Delivery.
  • Communication and storytelling capabilities connecting sustainability vision to actionable items.


  • Technical Expertise:
  • Knowledge of electrical power including Transformers, SCR’s, IGBT’s and Electric Heating process.


JOB REQUIREMENTS


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
:


  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with experience or course study in power systems.
  • Ability to travel 10-20% through the year to support operational development and deployment across our global enterprise manufacturing facilities.


REQUIRED
EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of industrial/commercial power systems operating up to 480 volts 3-phase power.
  • At least 3 years of manufacturing experience or design experience in LV (Low Voltage) and MV (Medium Voltage) power systems.
  • Familiarity with databases and control systems, mathematical and analytical skills.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in relevant field of study
  • Electrical melting experience in any business such as Glass, Steel, Aluminum, etc.
  • Previous execution of small to large scale projects, possibly including initiatives with new technology, processes, cross-functional teams, and partner team members.
  • Experience with cross-functional teams that include third party expertise. Aptitude to understand and solve business needs by integrating off-the-shelf solutions or developing new solutions where no-off-the shelf technology exists.
  • Effective verbal and written communications clearly connecting and conveying technical concepts, trial and learning plans, results, and recommendations.
