Description
The Kentucky Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) is a multi-faceted agency that provides services and programs to enhance the self-sufficiency of families; improve safety and permanency for children and vulnerable adults; and, engage families and community partners in a collaborative decision-making process.

DCBS seeks a Social Service Aide II who is driven to succeed in helping people and advance family self- sufficiency. With professionalism and integrity, our agency offers services to families to ensure safe, stable homes for the children of the Commonwealth. The Social Service Aide II is a skilled team member, providing a vital link between the children, families and local community partners. The employee is expected to perform at the highest quality to ensure services to the vulnerable citizens. This is a demanding position that requires maturity, self-discipline and the ability to work overtime.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Coordinates, assigns and monitors work activities of staff assigned to the transport team
  • Assists clients with preparation of necessary documents (i.e., food stamps, medical coverage, social security, housing, medical history, birth certificates and yearly school records)
  • Provides instructions to clients in areas of budgeting, nutrition, hygiene, parenting, housekeeping, child development and community resource awareness
  • Transports and accompanies clients to various appointments and potential placement visits
  • Supervises visitation between foster children and birth parents and documents progress of family interactions.
  • Enters data into computer system
  • Stays current in proper use of child safety seats
The ideal candidate will have:

The position you are applying for has access to or use of federal tax information (FTI) or meets the statutory definition of front-line staff. Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Must have fifty-four (54)semester hours from a college or university.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have three years of experience providing support services and/or transport services to individuals or families or working with the public.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience working with the public will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Work involves extensive contact with youth who have been abused, have behavior disorders and/or are status offenders. May run risks of hazards associated with frequent use of automobile.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
