Position Objective:

As our Communications Assistant, you will play an essential role in supporting the PETA US and PETA Latino Celebrity division in their efforts to perform outreach, generate media coverage, and garner celebrity support for PETA and PETA Latino campaigns

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Make us famous! It will be your responsibility to research opportunities for outreach through media, events, campaigning, celebrity, and social media influencer channels to promote PETA’s programs and presence
  • Be a huge fan! Stay up-to-date on the latest celebrity news and trends within the US and Latino community, and develop creative ideas to engage with them as part of our outreach efforts
  • Be in the know! Additionally, you'll track PETA's celebrity supporters and sympathizers, stay updated on award show nominee announcements and winners, and keep tabs on celebrity events both in LA and other designated cities
  • Breaking news! This just in – you’ll need to stay on top of current affairs and news stories affecting Latinos and Latin America, and keep a close eye on industry news outlets relevant to the Celebrity division (e.g., Billboard, E! News, People, The Daily Mail, TMZ.com, Variety, Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter, The Wrap, etc.)
  • Hollywood, here you come! You’ll be assisting in the organization of celebrity and influencer projects, including photo shoots and the production and editing of print, radio, and TV commercials, as well as social media campaigns
  • Step into the spotlight! Be ready to represent PETA on set, at events, and in meetings to make connections with talent, their teams, and other professionals outside of the organization to further develop our relationship and expand our reach
  • Have your people call my people! You’ll take charge of reaching out to talent representatives to coordinate celebrity mailings and gifts, plus maintaining detailed records including public figures who support PETA and PETA Latino’s work, interactions with celebrities and influencers, members of the media, news releases and media hits
  • Keep us organized! Support PETA Latino and PETA’s celeb team’s work by assisting with various administrative tasks such as filing, form submission, financial reporting, booking travel, and other tasks assigned by the supervisor
  • Let’s Zoom! Schedule meetings and take detailed, accurate meeting notes to distribute to appropriate staff
  • Show your creative side! You’ll be drafting talking points, letters to celebrities and the media, ad text, and other writing assignments assigned by the supervisor
  • Help us out! You’ll be assisting the team including the Manager and Associate Director of PETA Latino Communications as well as the Assistant Manager and SVP of Communications with other responsibilities specific to the program
Requirements:
  • Fluency (written and spoken) in English and Spanish are required
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of two years of high-level administrative support experience
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with celebrities
  • Extensive knowledge of and interest in the entertainment industry
  • Extensive knowledge of animal rights issues and PETA campaigns
  • Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Excellent Spanish-language writing skills are a big plus
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and follow through
  • You're going to be communicating with the public, celebrities/influencers, publicity firms, stylists, and more, so the ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional manner will be essential and requires the ability to be honest, reliable, and discreet.
  • Interest in and knowledge of Latin popular culture is a must
  • We are seeking a self-motivated and strategic thinker who is capable of making sound judgments, conducting and analyzing research, and working both independently and collaboratively with the team to effectively maximize the reach of our campaigns for animals.
  • Many people say that they "thrive under pressure," but this position has no shortage of tight deadlines, so you must really be able to crank out high-quality work within short timeframes
  • Dealing with the media and celebrities means that you must be very organized, with outstanding time-management skills, and excel at paying close attention to detail
  • You’ll be working with the press and celebrities, so a professional appearance is key
  • Proficiency in Outlook and experience working in Salesforce is a plus
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid U.S. driver's license, a minimum of three years of driving experience, and a satisfactory driving record
  • Must own or have access to a reliable car, as driving will be required for the position, sometimes on a moment's notice, and often
  • COVID-19 full vaccination and booster recommended
  • You must support PETA's philosophy and have the ability to professionally advocate our positions on issues
  • Naturally, you'd need to be committed to the objectives of the organization, and living a vegan lifestyle would be a part of this


The hourly pay range for this position is $18.50 - $19.50 per hour. The ultimate hourly pay within this range that will be offered to a qualified candidate will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and the cost of living in the area in which the candidate will live and work.
