The Expert IT Project Manager leads a team that implements new or enhancements to existing business applications supporting Electric Operations various groups: Service Planning & Design, Distribution, Transmission and Substation. These applications are aimed at improving both business and technical processes and data (within PLS-CADD, O-Calc, SAP, GIS, Documentum, CC&B and other vendor’s software) to optimize work management, asset management and PSPS related activities.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for the concurrent management of one or more medium to large complexity IT Business Technology projects. These projects are one-time, multitask jobs that have clearly defined start and end dates, a specific scope of work, a budget, required resources, and a specified performance objective to be achieved. Specific responsibilities include:
- Consistently demonstrating advanced knowledge and technical competence in the technologies that PG&E is implementing
- Responsible for leading one or more complex projects typically between $1,000,000 - $10,000,000
- Gathering, defining and documenting project scope, objectives, and requirements
- Clearly defining and communicating roles, responsibilities and expectations for all members of the project team
- Obtaining and defining staffing requirements and forming project teams
- Independently planning all associated work to meet project goals
- Providing direction and leadership to technical leads and analysts
- Exercises independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance
- Conducting project kick-off meetings
- Recording, tracking and communicating issues, risks, changes, and status reports within a PG&E standard tool
- Accurately and consistently forecasting project resource, material and contract costs within standard PG&E tools
- Driving all project related tasks to completion
- Developing and maintaining up-to-date detailed project schedules and work plans
- Monitoring critical project milestones, and identifying ways to resolve schedule issues
- Coordinating any required contract work within defined PG&E policy
- Manage the integration of vendor tasks and track and review vendor deliverable
- Conducting site visits and walk downs as needed
- Assessing project performance and implementing changes as necessary to ensure the projects remains within specified cost, schedule, scope and quality objectives
- Communicating status of all projects to stakeholders and management
- Developing and maintaining a productive working relationship with project sponsors, vendors and key clients
- Resolving problems of project specific scope within procedural guidelines
- Preparing all project documentation for closure, storage, and possible auditing activities, ensuring technical accuracy
- Identify and communicate lessons learned and best practices
Qualification:
Minimum:
- BA/BS in Computer Science/ Information Systems, Business, Engineering, etc. or equivalent work experience
- 7+ years of related experience or equivalent
- Experience in Waterfall, Agile and Scrum methodology
- Ownership of large individual or combined budget
- Ability to lead and influence strategic planning and decision-making working with senior management at PG&E
Desired:
- Experience working with Electric Transmission and Substation asset
- Working knowledge of estimating, design tools (O-Calc, PLS-CADD, EES)
- Experience working with LIDAR data, GIS and other PSPS related activities
- Experience working with Electric Distribution asset such as poles and lines
- Experience working with cloud technology: AWS, AZURE, One Cloud
- Demonstrated ability to lead and deliver on significant technology solutions/ business process improvements from concept to implementation
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interacting with all levels of the organization with ease. This includes but is not limited to their team, peer network, and senior executives
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Business Administration
- Ability to build and maintain strong and effective working relationships across departments
- Working knowledge of PG&E’s Enterprise IT infrastructure, Cyber Security, and other technology domain
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
- Ability to push back and challenge leadership requests that don’t make sense for the broader whole.
